A client comes to a masseur and says that their back hurts, especially the lower back, as well as the neck. And they ask the masseur to focus on these parts of their back, claiming that this way the masseur will relieve their suffering, and the masseur agrees to the massage.
Of course, they massage the lower back and neck and advise the client to come for the next visit in about a week, or preferably as soon as possible, so that these sessions are at regular intervals and the massage is effective enough to help at all. The client comes for the next visit. The masseur performs the same massage, massaging the lower back and neck.
When the next visit comes, the client does not show up. They do not show up because they found that the massage service was ineffective. And the massage did not help them. And that’s not the way to go.
This is an example of typical action from the level of the head and typical serving of the client.
Because the masseur followed exactly the instructions the client asked for.
So they simply served them, not following any of their intuition, any of their experience, not trying to expand the scope of their work, because they wanted to perform the massage in the way the client wished.
Wishes in Lomi Lomi Nui Massage?
In the case of Lomi Lomi massage, in my opinion, there is no place for such wishes.
The Lomi Lomi masseur listens to the client and pays attention to what they say. However, they do not follow the client’s instructions.
Following what the client says from the level of the head can be a kind of trap. Most often it is such a trap because when the masseur follows the client’s instructions, they are serving the client.
Lomi Lomi Massage is not serving, but a service.
This means that we never follow the client’s instructions. The basis of work in Lomi Lomi is guidance, which means flow. The Lomi Lomi massage is characterized by its fluidity, the masseur listens to the client’s body during the massage.
So at the moment when we undertake this work. We perform the massage according to how the client’s body guides us. How the masseur’s body guides me. How we are guided in this connection with the client, and only then is such a massage effective.
We do not work from the level of the head.
That is, we work in full trust in what comes to us. It is precisely then that healing occurs, and it turns out that even the Lomi Lomi masseur unconsciously reaches the place where the cause of the pain lies.
It often happens that one massage is enough for the pain the client previously complained about to disappear.
