As we know, the Lomi Lomi Nui massage comes from Hawaii, and it is also much warmer there than, for example, in Poland.
We also know very well, or maybe not everyone knows very well, that basically the massage was performed naked and no cloth was needed to cover the body for this massage.
Another reason was the culture of Hawaiians, completely different from ours. Hawaiians had no issues or problems with nudity.
We also know very well that the Lomi Lomi massage, which is taught in Poland, as well as in Europe, is taught in a version with a cloth. Of course, the form of massage with a cloth or towel covering intimate areas or without is perfectly fine. The boundaries and rules of receiving and giving a massage belong to the people interested in a given session.
My first steps in the Lomi Lomi Nui massage course.
Honestly, I once had such a problem in one of the courses, basically in my first Lomi Lomi massage course, where I was learning to massage.
When I lay down on the massage table and, of course, I was covered with a cloth. Naturally, I glanced at certain moments when the participants moved my legs left and right, I glanced to see if something might fall out from under that cloth.
At that time, I was still at a completely different stage of my journey. Because I felt that I didn’t necessarily want to show myself completely naked and didn’t necessarily want my entire naked body to be exposed. Therefore, it was a problem for me.
However, now I approach this nudity completely differently. I understand perfectly well clients who have never had the opportunity to experience such a massage in nudity and also need to accept and embrace their nudity, respect it.
Why do we lie down naked even under a cloth?
I would like to answer the question here, why do we lie down naked even under a cloth?
Hawaiian massage is technically difficult to perform, even if we lie down on the massage table in underwear. Because the main movement through the whole body, i.e., through the back, buttock, and leg, may cause the masseur to remove the underwear.
Therefore, we will feel not very comfortable, worse than lying naked.
Being naked, we can approach our nudity in a safe and covered way, see how we feel. Above all, we can cherish our body, show our body to the world, see that there is nothing wrong with this nudity, that this nudity is embraced by us, that this nudity is loved by us, that our body is accepted as it is at the given moment.
Why is this?
This is so that we can change our attitude towards nudity, so that we can accept ourselves in the form we are with our body. Cherish this body and say okay, I am naked and it doesn’t matter that I have something too big or too thin, or something is hanging somewhere.
I simply turn to my body with kindness and care, maybe for the first time in my life.
I love you and embrace you with what you are.
Only when I am able to experience nudity, then my body responds and changes. I change. My body also changes.
For me personally, performing Lomi Lomi massage with a cloth is a kind of difficulty, and I think it is also a difficulty for many masseurs.
Despite having quite a lot of experience with Lomi Lomi massage, operating the cloth during the massage still throws me off rhythm.
Fortunately, I have clients for whom nudity is not a problem, and more and more often, clients lie down on the massage table naked. Because they see that this massage flows completely differently.
Then my hands are in a kind of dance that does not end and is not interrupted. Moving the cloth left and right only interrupts this dance.
Basically, clients who lie on such a table naked can accept their body in its entirety, just like the Hawaiians did.
When we lie on the table naked, then a transformation begins to take place, related, for example, to beliefs about our own body. Its non-acceptance or experience of its judgment. In nudity, various difficult aspects of our life have the opportunity to surface in a safe way.
Concerns about Lomi Lomi Nui massage.
It is natural to have concerns about massage, that someone may cross our boundaries. We may feel fear or shame. Thoughts may arise, “what will someone think of me when I am lying naked.”
When we approach concerns and fears, they will slowly begin to change. Our attitude towards the body will begin to change.
We will be able to see that this is not about any desire, eroticism, that it is really about cherishing.
Simply cherishing and embracing one’s own body.
I wish you to have clients who, with full awareness and full responsibility and full trust, will lie down on your massage table.
As masseurs, you will be able to flow in this massage, and then this massage has a completely different dimension.
